Grievances

Where to file, who to escalate to, and how to tell us when the system is failing.

For most diaspora grievances, the Government of India already has an official channel. Use that first — it is the only path that produces a binding response on your specific case. After that, if the pattern you are seeing is part of something wider, tell the newsroom. We follow up editorially when patterns emerge.

Official Government of India channels

For individual cases, file directly through these. They are the only channels that can issue a binding response on your specific situation.

  • MEA Madad Portal

Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

    Open portal ↗

Consular grievances for Indian citizens abroad — passport renewal, visa, OCI services, distress, employment, attestation, lost documents.

  • CPGRAMS — Centralised Public Grievance Redress And Monitoring System

Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India.

    Open portal ↗

Grievances against any central or state government department. The umbrella portal that routes complaints to the relevant ministry.

  • Indian Mission Locator

Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

    Open portal ↗

Find the Indian embassy, high commission, or consulate covering your country of residence. Each mission publishes its own grievance email and consular hours.

  • Income Tax Department — NRI Helpdesk

Central Board of Direct Taxes, Government of India.

    Open portal ↗

Tax-related grievances including PAN, TDS, refunds, and assessment issues. Use the 'e-Nivaran' grievance module after logging in to the portal.

  • RBI Complaint Management System (CMS)

    Reserve Bank of India.

    Open portal ↗

Complaints against regulated banks, NBFCs, and payment system operators in India — useful for NRE/NRO/FCNR account disputes, remittance failures, foreign exchange transaction issues.

  • BLS International — Visa & OCI Application Status

Private service provider appointed by the Government of India.

    Open portal ↗

Service-provider escalations for OCI cards, visa applications, and passport processing in countries where BLS is the appointed handler. For underlying decisions, escalate through the Indian mission.

Government URLs change occasionally. If a link no longer works, please tell us and we will update this page. The canonical list is maintained by the Ministry of External Affairs and the relevant department.

Tell the newsroom what is failing

Once you have filed officially, we want to know — particularly if you are not alone. When fifty readers across four countries tell us the same OCI portal is returning the same error code, that is a story. When the same consulate in the same month produces the same delay, that is a story. When a process designed for ten thousand applicants is failing one hundred thousand, that is a story. Patterns are the territory of journalism.

Please note: sharing a grievance with us is not a substitute for filing it with the official channels above. We have no relationship with the Government of India that lets us submit on your behalf. We use what readers send us to do journalism — nothing more, nothing less.

Your submission goes only to the Diaspora Dreams editorial inbox. We never share contact details with third parties, including the Government of India. See our Privacy Policy.
